Majestic Native Americans, intimidating Spanish expeditionaries, triumphant Mexican’s revolting, persevering Americans conquering. However you describe their involvement, these are the people that make up California history.
After California was ceded to the union of the United States in 1848, officially becoming a state in 1850, the state’s history was seemingly fast-tracked for growth with booms from the gold rush, real estate development, and other discoveries of local commodities like oil, water, and fertile soil. In the early 1920’s four brothers from the Ratterree family found themselves in the area for just such an opportunity. Purchasing a massive walnut grove, on which the neighborhood of Brentwood Glen now sits, the Ratterees divided their land into five separate parcels, each designated for the development of subdivisions. Today, the streets named by the Ratterree Brothers remain as they were then. The first sidewalks in the Ratterree development were laid in 1927 and by 1932 the first home had been built at 11344 Albata Street; the original structure is still preserved and standing.
Now home to some 560 dwellings, consisting mostly of single-family homes, Brentwood Glen is one of the most charming neighborhoods located in the greater L.A. metroplex.
