Since Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen have decided to stop selling diesel-fueled cars in the United States, the number of automobiles available that operate on the fuel source has dropped. In fact, for 2018, there are just 11 basic models that offer it. Here are the top ones.
BMW 328d
If you want a fast Bimmer, then the 328d is not your model. However, if fuel economy combined with a nice ride is a major consideration, then the BMW 328d is definitely up your alley. According to the EPA, the vehicle achieves 30 miles per gallon for jaunts around town and 41 miles per gallon on the highway. The car company equipped the vehicle with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, one that generates 180 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque.
Along with the substantially-powered engine, there are also features like dual-zone automatic climate control, LED headlights and a push-button start as well as auto-dimming mirrors, heated side mirrors and driver-seat memory settings.
Jaguar XE
For 2018, Jaguar decided to offer car buyers a diesel engine option. It is even available with all of the car company’s trim levels. If you go with a Jag, you’ll be driving around in a car that has an engine capable of producing 180 horsepower and 318 pound-feet of torque. Along with this powerful engine, you’ll also receive standard features like a sunroof, dual-zone climate control and driving modes that you can select. So, if you’re heading out for a drive in the rain, sleet or snow, then your Jaguar has a driving mode to handle that.
Jaguar XF
The 2018 Jaguar XF is a diesel-fueled vehicle that falls into the midsize luxury category. It comes with the same diesel engine as the XE, but if you select the XF, then you’ll have comfy features like the company’s infotainment system and the Meridian surround-sound system. More spacious than the XE, the XF will have you sinking down cozily into plush leather seats.
If you upgrade to the Premium level, then you’ll enjoy the driver-seat memory settings and power-adjustable steering column while the Prestige trim will get you park assist and a navigation system.
Chevy Cruze
Chevy is selling the 2018 Cruze with a diesel engine option. This cute little sedan will run on a 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel, one that will give you 137 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque. When it comes to fuel economy, the Cruze’s diesel engine six-speed automatic transmission will get you 29 miles per gallon in the city and 40 miles per gallon on the highway.
The diesel engine only comes in the LT trim package, and standard equipment includes 16-inch alloy wheels, a six-speaker audio system and heated front seats. Chevy also included features like a 7.0-inch touchscreen, USB ports and an oil life monitoring system.
Fun to Drive and Good for the Planet
Diesel-operated cars are available at a variety of price points. When you invest in a vehicle that operates on diesel fuel, you’ll have a car that is not only fun to drive, but you’ll also have one that is less harmful to the environment.
