Some of these might seem like common sense, but what’s “common sense” to you might be an “oh, I hadn’t thought of that” for someone else. Since winter has passed, spring is upon and summer is on its way, consider cleaning out your trunk. For most of us in the winter, the “trunk” ceases being a “trunk” and becomes more like a mobile storage space. Getting everything out of there will give you space to put items for the summer (a few folding chairs) while also potentially helping your vehicle’s fuel economy rating by making it a bit lighter.
Examine your Wiper Blades
If you’re reading this in southern California, we may not have frozen winters, but we have gotten more rainfall than usual this year. That may continue into the spring and summer, too. When that happens, we count on our windshield wiper blades to work hard for us. They can wear out after heavy use, or if you’ve had them in your vehicle for a long period of time. You may notice when they stop working completely, but the goal is to replace them before that happens. Some studies have said that a majority of windshield wiper blades need to be replaced after six months, but replacing them that frequently might be a bit much for most of us. Instead, you may want to extend their life by using glass cleaner and a cloth. By that same token, you may want to look at replacing the windshield wiper fluid, too.
The AC System and More
Spring and summer, no matter where you are, bring warmer temperatures. There’s something great about driving through your neighborhood with the window down, soaking in the cool breeze on a warm day. However, when you’re out on the highway, you probably want to roll up the window and put on the air conditioning. Spring and summer are great times to check out your ventilation system and make sure that it’s working as well as it can be.
There’s a very simple test for this: turn your air conditioning up to its highest, coldest setting. You may want to turn on “Max AC” depending on if that’s an option in your vehicle. Then, check how long it takes to get to its coldest temperature. If it takes too long, you should probably get it checked out. To be clear, there’s no “set time limit” here, no number that it if it fails to reach, you should automatically take it for maintenance. However, you’ve probably been in your vehicle with the AC cranked all the way up before. You know if it’s working properly.
Picking up the Inside
